CCAPP Resources for Restaurants

We realize that replacing plastic is a huge undertaking, especially when you have a business to keep afloat, health standards to uphold, and employees to pay. Fortunately, there are many likeminded people who have created resources for the food industry.

We are open to having conversations about what you as a restaurant owner or employee can do to reduce your impact on the environment. Please do not hesitate to reach out and we can hopefully point you in the right direction!

Skip the Straw Law

Read about Ulster County’s Skip the Straw Law here. The law states that customers must request straws, cutlery, stirrers and condiment packets. By automatically providing these items to your customers, you are at risk of incurring a fine from the county.

You can download Ulster County’s Skip the Straw poster to display at your business to start a conversation with your customers about reducing plastic use by eliminating straws and plastic cutlery.

We also have some alternative styles below. Download a table card, flyer in color or b&w, or a poster for your business.

Apply for subsidies to replace disposables with reusables

The nonprofit Plastic Free Restaurants supplies restaurants and schools with plastic-free alternatives. You can apply for funding, or donate to support their subsidization of businesses.

Beyond Plastics has created a guide for restaurant owners and people working in the food industry who wish to reduce their plastic use.

The guide is free and contains practical advice, tools, resources (including funding resources), and case studies.
